i am JOSIAH - A Real Life Story
Growing up can be difficult, even more so when facing life with disabilities. Josiah grew up in a typical hardworking family in a small town. He was hearing impaired with 95% hearing loss until he had surgery in his second year of high school in 1982. He met constant bullying until he no longer wished to live. His prayer was, "God take me!".
At 32, Josiah moved to Nashville. An acquaintance of his who worked for radio station became his golden ticket to country royalty at famous historical places, stages, TV tapings, record label parties, and sports events. He hit the country party scene like a whirlwind until an emergency phone call from his mother and a comment from his workaholic boss. Change was coming.
Soon after, Josiah moved to Orlando, FL. Josiah's wild party lifestyle wasn't tempered by the move but enhanced by it. Then, the storm of a lifetime came to him, beginning with the theft of his identity over $20k (a felony that could have meant prison). His home was foreclosed, and he was left homeless and hungry. In ten years, he moved eight times. His life had spiraled out of control; anger and hate were all that was left. His childhood prayer resurfaced: "God take me, I surrender, I am done". He had no idea how close his prayers were to being answered. Those words could have been his last; he fell asleep while driving, and his car went off the road. The miracle that happened during that event changed Josiah's life. God saved his life. He was no longer the same, from abused and broken to a new life and restored—purpose from the pain.
Behind the Scenes and Time Line Events
”i am JOSIAH’ by GW Tolley is a true story based on actual events.
GW grew up in a typical hardworking family in a small town in the Appalachian Mountains, USA. Growing up can be difficult, even more so when facing life with disabilities. GW had ear issues from birth, and he was constantly at the doctor, and the medicine tasted nasty. When the medicine ran out, the problems would come right back and sometimes worse than before. At a young age, they removed his tonsils to correct the problem, but it did not. Not only did he have a hard time hearing, but with his last name starting with a T, his seat was usually in the back of the room at school. Not being able to hear, he would get bored and doodle, and his mind would wander everywhere. Receiving a grade of a D+ or even a C- was a significant accomplishment for him. He met constant bullying until he no longer wished to live. His prayer was, "God take me!". His mom would work with him with flash cards. His mom would say, "You are smart and can do anything you put your mind to. There is always a way around, over, or under every situation, and sometimes you must go through it. Reach for the Stars, but remember to keep your feet on the ground." His mom was loving, kind, intelligent, and business savvy. But if you messed with her family or her children. Well, that is another story.
His life was about to change significantly in his second year of high school. The TV was extremely loud one day and turned to the maximum volume. His mom called the doctor and said, "Send him to a specialist. He cannot hear." The doctor referred to an ear, nose, and throat specialist who said "he has hearing loss in both ears, one with 95%." The situation was so bad they did the surgery right then and there. They could not numb his eardrum and had to be a big boy and tough it out. They brought in a machine that was like a giant vacuum cleaner. There was a big needle, and the doctor said, "I am going to bust your eardrum, and you will hear a strange noise. We will vacuum out the liquid." The liquid was almost black. As they nearly finished, the noise was deafening and almost unbearable. His mom said, "Be strong; I am right here with you, and she wiped the only tear running down his cheek."
Here is a back story before we go into the next phase: as a child, GW was always drug to church. When he was older, he vowed to never go to church again. He did not go for more than 20 years.
At 32, GW moved to Nashville. GW informed his boss of the critical news from his mother, and his workaholic boss's uncaring comment stunned and angered GW. Change was coming. He returned to Nashville, but his uncaring boss's comment had caused a thought-changing process, and there was no going back.
GW gave his boss two weeks' notice, sold his house, and moved.
Orlando, FL. His wild party lifestyle wasn't tempered by the move but enhanced by it. Excessive partying with fair-weather friends, he went down many wrong roads. Fast forward four years, and the storm of his life had begun, and he did not know until it was too late. The unstoppable chain of events started with identity theft, with over $20k (a felony that could have meant prison). Those events led to his home being foreclosed on Christmas Eve and later padlocked. He was left homeless and hungry. His house of sand collapsed, and he donated his possessions to charity. Then, he was laid-off from his job. Out of desperation, he placed an ad on Craigslist for a place to live and ended up living with a family of nine. Some nights, he had no food and would microwave water to fill his stomach so that it had something warm in it so he could go to sleep. He ate oatmeal for two years, finally dropped his pride, and went to a food bank. What is ironic is that he volunteered at that food bank. Too prideful and ashamed, and they quickly said, "Raise your head up!" They shared they started as a client and are now volunteers. There is no shame here! In ten years, he moved eight times. His life had spiraled out of control; anger and hate were all that was left.
His mom, over the many years of sickness, died four times, and on two occasions, she was gone for over 30 minutes but came back to life. She was always full of life, joy, and laughter. The most overwhelming challenge was the passing of his mom.
GW was working two part-time jobs, and one day, he finished working overnight. While at work, his phone had to be silent, and he had forgotten to turn his ringer on. He was tired and burnt out, but a significant turning point was about to come into his life, and it was coming head-on. His childhood prayer resurfaced: "God take me, but this time he added I surrender; I am done." He had no idea how close that was to being answered. Those words could have been his last; he fell asleep while driving, and his car went off the road toward a transformer pole. His seatbelt held him in place, and his phone silenced. His phone flashed and woke GW up. He returned his car to the road and answered the call via the car's dashboard.
The man said, "God had told me that you were in danger, and he told me to call you. What are you doing?" GW said, "I fell asleep while driving, and my car went off the road and headed toward a transformer pole." The man said, "I must stay on the phone with you until you park." GW said, "I AM AWAKE!." The man said, "That was not the instructions. I came down and out of the office building to call you. How much further do you have to go?" GW was still in shock and said, "About three miles."
The man said, "Your divine life purpose is much needed in the world. I have to stay on the phone with you until you're parked."
God saved GW's life and gave him another chance because the story could have ended there. He knows that and shares his stories of the things he went through because he wants people to see what God has done in his life. He said it is not me, and all the praise and glory goes to God. Some people have said, "We see that GW found Jesus." However, the truth is Jesus found me! GW said that every day, he thanks God for pursuing him. He was that one lost sheep; until you have been that one, you will not understand. Jesus told them this parable: "Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn't he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, 'Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep. I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.

God
ANSWER
The God from the Holy Bible, The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Jesus Christ is our LORD and SAVIOR.
2.) QUESTION
Let me ask you a question, a crucial question. If you should die today, are you 100% certain that you are going to Heaven?
If you should die today and stand before God, and He asked you why He should let you into His Heaven, what would you say?
ANSWER
Did you know you can be 100% certain you will go to Heaven? You CAN know, and here is how. In 1 John 5:13, the Bible says, "I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life."
In Romans 3:10, the Bible says, "There is no one righteous, not even one." Verse 23 says, "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." That means I'm a sinner, and that means you are a sinner, too. Most people do not realize the seriousness of sin. God is holy, and sin separates a sinner from God.
This verse shows how serious it is! In Romans 5:12 the Bible says, "Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all have sinned." The word "death" doesn't mean dying and going to the grave; it means separation from God. Until our sins are forgiven, we are separated from God on this earth, and we will be separated from God forever and ever in a place called Hell. This is the punishment for our sin.
But the story doesn't end here! In Romans 6:23, the Bible says, "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." The words "eternal life" mean more than living forever; they mean to live forever in Heaven.
Notice that being saved is a gift—it's absolutely free! You can't buy it, work for it, or be good enough. It is free! It would be as if a friend went to the store and purchased you a present. They paid for, wrapped, put a bow on it, and brought it to you. They did everything for you. All you have to do is receive it.
That is what Jesus did! He left His home in Heaven, came to earth, died on the cross, shed His blood, and paid for your sins. He did everything for you. All you have to do is receive it. Romans 5:8 says He did this for us while we were still sinners.
Most people think they have to stop doing everything bad before God will save them. But God loves us as sinners, and Jesus died for us. When Jesus died for you, He made it possible for you to have forgiveness of sins and eternal life with God. However, just because Jesus died for you does not automatically save you.
The following are Yes or No answers. You must ask Jesus to forgive your sins.
1.) Now, do you admit that you are a sinner?
2.) Do you understand that sin separates you from God?
3.) Do you believe Jesus died on the cross for you?
4.) Would you like to be forgiven of all your sins and know 100% you are going to Heaven?
If YES, then this is what you need to do.
In Romans 10:9-13 the Bible tells us that if you call upon the name of the Lord, you will be saved. Then, according to the Bible, if you ask Jesus into your heart right now, He will save you forever! Wouldn't you like to do this? If you trust Jesus to take you to Heaven when you die, pray this prayer.
"Dear Jesus, I know I am a sinner. I believe You died for my sins, and God raised You from the dead. Forgive me of all my sins. Come into my heart today. Give me a home in Heaven when I die. Help me to obey You. I mean this prayer with all my heart!"
Romans 10:13 says, "For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."
According to the Bible, if you have done this, you are saved—and if you were to die today, you would go to Heaven!
I also encourage you to: 1) Read the Bible to grow in your faith—maybe start with the first four books of the New Testament: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.
